Bahrain’s Minister of Education Becomes the Chairman of UOB’s Board of Trustees!

Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has restructured the University of Bahrain (UoB) Board of Trustees by Royal Decree (45) of 2024. The move, following the Prime Minister’s proposal and Cabinet approval, aims to bolster governance and strategic planning at the university.

Under the decree, the Minister of Education will chair the board. Other members include:

  • Minister of Industry and Commerce
  • Minister of Youth Affairs
  • Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB)
  • President of the Civil Service Bureau (CSB)
  • Undersecretary for Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy
  • Fatima Al Sayed Redha Ismaeel Ibrahim
  • Sonya Mohammed Janahi
  • Dr. Khalid Abdullah Taqi
  • Dr. Ebrahim Al Sayed Jamal Al Hashemi
  • Professor David Palfreyman
  • Professor Maia Chankseliani

Members will serve four-year terms, ensuring continuity in leadership. The decree’s implementation falls under the responsibility of the Prime Minister and Minister.

This restructuring underscores Bahrain’s commitment to enhancing higher education and aligning institutional goals with national priorities.
