Making Waves! Bahrain Will Be a Global Hub for Water Sports With the World Aquatic Centre at UTB

Exciting news in the world of sports! The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and World Aquatics, with the support of GFH Financial Group and the Bahrain Swimming Association, have kicked off a groundbreaking project! The Bahrain World Aquatic Centre at the University of Technology Bahrain (UTB).

Held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the BOC President, the foundation stone laying ceremony marked a significant step towards establishing a global hub for water sports in Bahrain. HH Shaikh Khalid expressed joy at this achievement, foreseeing the project as a game-changer for water sports in the region.

The Bahrain World Aquatic Centre is set to become a training and competition haven for swimmers worldwide. HH Shaikh Khalid emphasized the importance of the centre in nurturing local and international talent! Underlining the partnership’s goal to make Bahrain a focal point for developing various water sports.

Dr. Husain Al Musallam, World Aquatics President, shared his excitement, stating that the Centre would boost water sports in the Middle East, creating opportunities for athletes globally. Hisham Alrayes, CEO of GFH Financial Group and UTB Board Chairman, expressed pride in the project! Envisioning it as a magnet for the global water sports community while meeting the needs of local athletes and students.

The state-of-the-art Centre, the first in the Middle East by World Aquatics, will feature two Olympic-standard pools, one for swimming and the other for diving. With a seating capacity of 1,000 for spectators, it aims to host competitions and events in the future. Beyond sports, the Centre will offer integrated facilities for training, sports sciences, accommodation, restaurants, and retail units.
