A Proud Moment!
Bahraini filmmaker and content creator Omar Farooq has been appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, becoming the first Bahraini to take on the role.

The appointment recognises his years of work raising awareness about refugees and people forced to leave their homes because of conflict and crises.
Omar has worked with UNHCR since 2017, using his social media platforms, videos and documentaries to share the stories of displaced communities across the Middle East, Asia and Africa. His work has included visits to Bangladesh to highlight the Rohingya refugee crisis, as well as trips to South Sudan and the Chad-Sudan border to raise awareness of the Sudan crisis.
In his new role, Omar will continue using his platform to highlight the challenges faced by refugees, particularly those affected by crises that receive less public attention.
He is also developing an education-focused initiative called Beyond Borders with UNHCR, aimed at helping young refugees gain skills and tools to tell their own stories and reach wider audiences.
