Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Minister of Finance and National Economy, expressed gratitude to Morocco for hosting the 2023 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He acknowledged the crucial role played by the WBG in addressing economic challenges and promoting global development. He praised the WBG’s new vision to reduce poverty and achieve prosperity, social development, and environmental goals worldwide.
Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa represented the Arab Group and the Maldives (represented by Bahrain) at the Joint Ministerial Committee of the Boards of Governors of the Bank and the Fund. This meeting took place during the 2023 Annual Meetings of the WBG and the IMF in Marrakech, Morocco.
The minister highlighted the WBG’s efforts in finding solutions for food and energy sector challenges, advancing digital capabilities, protecting the environment, and facilitating global economic recovery.
He welcomed the increased financing capacity of the WBG to support development needs and help countries achieve sustainable development goals.
Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa stressed the importance of innovative solutions for economic development, leveraging available resources, developing human capital, attracting private sector investments, and creating a conducive legislative environment for growth.
He called for stronger cooperation between the public and private sectors, multilateral development banks, international organizations, and civil society groups to address various challenges, including climate change.
