Bahrain’s Ministry of Education is introducing updates to the Private Schools Law to keep pace with changes in the education sector. The number of students, schools, and staff has grown significantly, and teaching methods and licensing requirements have evolved. The ministry now oversees all education levels, including nurseries and kindergartens, aiming to improve quality and supervision across private institutions. The ministry has recorded 150 violations in private schools, covering buildings, tuition fees, employment and curricula. The new law provides clear steps to address these issues, with license withdrawal reserved for serious cases.
It also requires schools to establish parents’ councils, promoting better cooperation with families, and strengthens financial oversight by requiring regular reports and early notification of salary shortfalls. Schools can invest in facilities such as halls, playgrounds, and swimming pools to generate additional income, under ministry approval. The law aims to ensure a transparent, sustainable, and high-quality private education system in Bahrain.
