Bahrain’s Parliament Approves Increasing Unemployment Allowance to BD 250/BD 300 for Bahrainis

After a four-hour session on Tuesday, Bahrain’s Parliament approved a new law to increase unemployment benefits. With this new update, unemployed university graduates will now receive BD 300 per month, while others will get BD 250. This change is part of a larger effort to better support those who are currently without work. During the same session, MPs also passed two other laws — one to amend the Real Estate Lease Law and another that updates the rules around national standards and specifications.

Parliament also gave the green light to several important proposals. These included simplifying the process for getting construction permits and allowing small home expansions under 100 square meters to go ahead without needing engineering supervision. Another proposal granted firefighters hazard pay and better insurance coverage. MPs also agreed to set up a new sports and social center for women in the Southern Governorate, covering the 8th and 10th districts.
