Bahrain has officially made its mark on the world’s culinary tourism map! This milestone was achieved during the 9th UN World Tourism Organization Forum on Gastronomy Tourism, held on November 18-19 at the Bahrain International Exhibition Center. The event was a collaboration between the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, the UNWTO, and the Basque Culinary Center, marking the first time the forum was hosted in the Middle East.
One of the highlights was including the traditional Bahraini dish Madhrooba, crafted by award-winning chef Tala Bashmi, in the UN’s culinary guide. Chef Tala, recognized as the Best Chef in the Middle East and North Africa, has proudly showcased Bahrain’s culinary heritage on a global platform.
Sarah Buhejji, CEO of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, highlighted Bahrain’s growing global culinary reputation, emphasizing its unique food culture and strong hospitality sector. She announced plans to welcome new international restaurants, adding to the 155+ tourist-focused eateries already in Bahrain. The forum also showcased Bahraini heritage through visits to artisan centers, family-run businesses, and authentic local restaurants, offering visitors a taste of the kingdom’s vibrant culture.
So Proud!
