Restaurant Owners in Bahrain Push for Lower Charges From Food Delivery Companies

A group of restaurant owners are raising their voices and demanding a change in the fees charged by food delivery companies! They argue that these fees are too high, reaching over 30% on certain orders or a fixed amount for smaller orders.

The restaurant owners spoke up on the need for a fair balance between their businesses and food delivery companies. With lower fees, restaurants would have more flexibility to offer discounts, increase their order volume, or even give freebies!

One example is the owner of “Organic” which was located in Seef area, he had to close down his spot due to the excessive fees imposed by food delivery companies. Ahmed Al Mahroos expressed his frustration, saying, “We often find that the number of customers ordering through the food delivery apps surpasses those who visit the actual restaurant. But at the end of the month, when we tally up our accounts, it feels like we’re working for the food delivery companies because their share of the profits is much larger than ours.”

Despite the market boasting over 12,000 food and beverage establishments, the number of delivery companies is limited. Restaurant owners face numerous challenges, including high rents, rising ingredient prices, employee salaries, as well as utility costs.

Do you think food delivery companies should reduce their fees?
