Dominating the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, Bahrain emerges as the top-performing Arab country, bringing home a stunning total of six medals. With three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, Bahrain’s athletes have showcased their incredible talents and left their mark on the competition.
The national handball team roared to victory with a resounding 29-20 win over Iran, securing their spot in the semi-finals. And that’s not all! The basketball team also celebrated their first triumph, triumphantly defeating their Thai opponents with a score of 76-62.
But the spotlight truly shines on Bahrain’s exceptional runners. Oluwakemi Adekoya blazed through the women’s 400-meter race, snatching the gold medal with a lightning-fast time of 50.66 seconds. Following closely behind, Salwa Eid Naser claimed the silver medal, crossing the finish line in an impressive 50.92 seconds.
The golden streak continued with Birhanu Balew’s remarkable performance in the men’s 10,000-meter race.
And let’s not forget the incredible achievements of Hajer Al Khaldi and Ahmed Abbas. Al Khaldi dashed her way to a well-deserved third place in the women’s 100-meter race, clocking an impressive time of 11.35 seconds. Abbas powered through the men’s 400-meter race, earning Bahrain its second bronze medal and a place on the podium.
