The more you know, right?
Us mortals always think we know everything, but if the below facts have proven anything, it’s that there’s always more to discover. These are interesting because it had us all going like “Woah, really?” so they might have the same effect on you guys. Keep reading to find out if you’ve heard of these facts before:
Jellyfish have actually been around longer than dinosaurs
Scientists have evidence that jellyfish have been around in the world’s oceans for at least 500 million years, possibly even 700, which is 3 times the age of dinosaurs!
Ice pops were invented by an 11-year-old by accident
In 1905, an 11-year-old boy named Frank Epperson left soda powder and water outside overnight with its wooden stirrer still in the cup. The mixture froze up, and the popsicle (first called Epsicle back then) was born!
Most wasabi paste isn’t real wasabi
Because of how expensive wasabi really is, most companies replace it with horseradish. Real wasabi is milder than what we’re used to getting with our sushi!
People used to say “prunes” instead of “cheese” when having their pictures taken
In the 1840s, a big grin or smile was seen as childish, so photographers used to tell people to say ‘Prunes’ in order to keep their mouths ‘taut.’
The Eiffel Tower was originally intended for Barcelona
But Barcelona thought the design was too ugly… So, Gustave Eiffel pitched it to France, instead!
Lobsters taste with their feet
This is the weirdest one yet… Tiny bristles inside a lobster’s pincers are their equivalent to human taste buds. Lobsters’ teeth are actually in one of their three stomachs.
The shortest war in history lasted 38 minutes
The story goes: When the sultan of British-protected Zanzibar died and a new one took over without British approval in 1896, the Brits were not happy. Tension escalated when Sultan Khalid bin Barghash refused to step down, but the British warships spent less than 40 minutes bombarding the palace before Khalid fled, marking the (very quick) end of the Anglo-Zanzibar War.
Blue whale tongues can weigh as much as an elephant
Not to mention, their hearts can weigh almost a ton and needs to beat just once every ten seconds.
The world’s largest waterfall is underwater
Yup, waterfalls UNDER the ocean. At the Denmark Strait, the cold water from the Nordic Sea is denser than the Irminger Sea’s warm water, making it drop almost two miles down at 123 million cubic feet per second!!
Seriously, the more you know
