The Southern Municipality has approved a number of proposals focused on improving infrastructure and enhancing daily life for residents in the area. One of the key proposals includes installing a monument and upgrading the Hajiyat Street roundabout with landscaping and decorations that reflect Arab culture and traditions, like the iconic dallah (coffee pot), falcons, and other traditional elements.
Another approved proposal now requires new commercial buildings to provide at least two parking spaces for every apartment. This move is aimed at easing the ongoing parking issues in residential neighborhoods and reducing disputes between neighbors. The council also supported a plan to convert abandoned houses in the fourth district of the Southern Governorate into parking spaces. This initiative is meant to solve parking shortages while also preventing these empty properties from being misused or becoming security concerns.
Lastly, the council agreed on adding a new condition for commercial buildings: each one must now have a dedicated space for garbage containers. This is to help maintain cleanliness and ensure the bins remain in a fixed spot, avoiding clutter or confusion for residents.
