Bahrain’s pavilion, “Connecting Seas”, has won the Gold Award for Best Architecture and Landscape at Expo 2025 Osaka in the category of self-built pavilions under 1,500 m². The award was presented by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) for excellence in design, creativity and sustainability. Designed by Lebanese architect Lina Ghotmeh, the pavilion uses mostly wood and relies on natural sea breezes for cooling, making it one of the most sustainable at the Expo. It is located in the Empowering Lives zone and spans 995 m² across four levels.
Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, President of BACA and Commissioner General of the Pavilion, said the award reflects Bahrain’s blend of heritage and innovation, thanking the leadership and the team behind the project.
The award highlights Bahrain’s growing role in cultural and sustainable innovation on the global stage.
