In Discussion: Bahrain Is Set to Vote for a New Low-Cost Airline

Bahrain’s Council of Representatives is set to vote on a proposal to establish a low-cost airline in partnership with the private sector during its session on 3 November 2026. The proposal, submitted by MP Mohammed Jassim Al Alaiwi, aims to reduce airfares, offer more affordable travel options for citizens and residents, introduce new routes and support tourism and job opportunities. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications said it has already taken steps to introduce a low-cost airline model in Bahrain through an agreement with AirAsia, in cooperation with Gulf Air, to operate flights to and from Bahrain.

The ministry said the move aims to provide more affordable travel options and add new destinations through Bahrain International Airport. The joint parliamentary committee has also recommended approving the proposal.
