In Discussion: Bahrain Might Soon Introduce Traffic Regulations With Stricter Penalties

Bahrain is reviewing Decree-Law No. 30 of 2025, which proposes stricter amendments to the traffic law to address the growing number of serious road accidents. The Foreign Affairs, Defense, and National Security Committee confirmed that recent statistics show a sharp rise in fatal and severe traffic incidents, creating an urgent need for stronger legal deterrence. The amendments aim to increase penalties for major offenses, including negligent homicide, negligent injury, excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, and driving under the influence.

Officials noted that rapid population growth, urban expansion, and rising vehicle numbers require updated traffic regulations. The proposed changes aim to provide authorities with more effective tools to enforce the law, protect road users, and uphold the constitutional right to life and safety.

These amendments mark Bahrain’s push toward stronger enforcement and safer streets.
