Equality! Bahrain’s MPs Propose Citizenship for Kids with Bahraini Moms and Non-Bahraini Dads

Big news from Bahrain! MPs in Bahrain are making a bold move towards gender equality by proposing a change in citizenship laws.

They want to grant citizenship to children born to Bahraini moms and non-Bahraini dads. Until now, only kids with Bahraini dads and non-Bahraini moms could get citizenship. If this proposal gets approved, it’ll be a major milestone in Bahrain’s journey toward equal rights and opportunities for all its citizens.

For years, citizenship in Bahrain has been passed down mainly through dads, following a patrilineal system. But things are about to change! The bill is currently being considered by the Foreign Affairs, Defense, and National Security Committee in Bahrain’s House of Representatives. It’s all about leveling the playing field! And giving kids an equal shot at citizenship, regardless of their parent’s gender.

This proposal is in line with the 2011 National Compatibility Dialogue! Which emphasized the importance of granting citizenship to children of Bahraini women married to foreigners.

A more inclusive Bahrain!
