Badr Al Busaidi, the Foreign Affairs Minister of Oman and Chairman of the current GCC Ministerial Council session sent a letter on behalf of the GCC member states to Sérgio França Danese, the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations (also the President of the Security Council).
The letter expressed the GCC’s regret over not being able to agree on a resolution to address the situation in Gaza and its serious violations. Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, the Secretary General of the GCC, said that the GCC states were ready to talk it out with the Security Council and come up with a resolution that aligns with international resolutions and laws. They’re planning to have urgent discussions in New York with the Permanent Representative of Brazil and other Security Council members. The letter made it clear that all parties, especially Israel, should stop the unlawful acts and follow international and humanitarian laws. They also emphasized the need to release hostages and detainees, reject violence as a solution, and strongly condemn the targeting of civilians.
The GCC states have pledged $100 million in urgent relief aid for Gaza to support humanitarian efforts.
