Here Are 5 Easy Recipes You Can Cook Up in Less Than 30 Minutes

We all love home-cooked meals, but sometimes they look like a lot of work! So we’ve made things easy for you, check out our list of 5 easy Bahraini recipes that are sure to impress. What’s more, they’re simple, quick, and fun to make for friends and family!

Each one of these easy recipes takes a maximum of 30 minutes of of preparation and cooking!


Tomato & eggs (15-20 minutes)

This dish is a favorite for many locals & it’s really simple to make! The flavor packed eggs are simple yet so delicious!

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • Pinch mixed herbs or (a pinch of: turmeric powder, garlic powder, onion powder)
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 big tomato or two small ones (depending on how much tomato you prefer)
  • Small red onion

Method
STEP 1:
 In a frying pan, fry off the chopped tomato. Then add spices and simmer for 10 minutes on medium heat.
STEP 2: In a bowl whisk the eggs and add salt & pepper.
STEP 3: Add egg mixture to the frying pan with the tomatoes and cook on a low heat, checking the bottom isn’t burning.
STEP 4: Once the eggs are cooked about 2/3 through, mix it with a spatula.

TIP: Love spicy food? Add a pinch of chopped chilies or a pinch of chili powder!


Balaleet (20-30 minutes)

If you’re looking for a sweet breakfast, look no further than balaleet! It’s amazing and so easy to make!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vermicelli (wheat noodles)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 2 pinches saffron, diluted in 2 tablespoons of rose water (or water)
  • 2 eggs beaten

Method
STEP 1:
 First and importantly, add saffron in a small bowl of rose water OR water and leave it to dilute for 15-20 mins to make sure the saffron flavor is strong when adding.
STEP 2: In a pot, add water on high heat until it boils, add the vermicelli and cook for just 3 minutes (test how soft it is to make sure its done). Drain vermicelli in a colander making sure all the water is drained.
STEP 3: In the same pot, put back the vermicelli and add cooking oil and with no heat on, add cardamom, sugar and the diluted saffron water, turn low heat on and mix until sugar is dissolved.
STEP 4: Cover the pot with very low heat for the balaleet to cook with steam more for about 10 minutes making sure it does not stick to the bottom.
STEP 5: Serve vermicelli with omelette on top and enjoy together.

TIP: If you don’t like eggs in your balaleet, you totally can skip them!


Keema (20-30 minutes)

One of the best Bahraini easy recipes is Keema, it’s protein and flavor packed. Also, works as breakfast, lunch, or dinner, so you can eat it any time you’d like!

Ingredients

  • 500g of minced beef (low fat)
  • peas
  • 1/2 cup of finely minced onions
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1/2 tsp of cumin, black pepper, and turmeric | 1/2 tbsp of ginger and cinnamon | 1 tbsp coriander
  • 2 finely minced tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp of tomato paste
  • 1 tsp salt

Method
STEP 1:
 In a pot, boil peas and once cooked, add a pinch of salt and simmer for 5 minutes.
STEP 2: in another pot, add a dash of oil, add minced onions, garlic and cook until golden.
STEP 3: Add minced beef and stir until cooked, then remove excess oil.
STEP 4: Add all other powder spices and stir, followed by tomato paste, cooked peas, tomatoes and stir until combined.
STEP 5: Simmer for 15 minutes and make sure to close the lid.
STEP 6: serve on a plate with fresh bread.

TIP: Want an extra kick? Add chopped chilies while toasting minced garlic and onion!


Red Macaroni (20-30 minutes)

This dish is a favorite for many locals & it’s really simple to make! The flavor packed eggs are simple yet so delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 boneless chicken breast
  • 1 packet of macaroni pasta (elbow pasta)
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp of garlic powder, soy sauce, lemon juice, and tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp of bizar (mixed Bahraini spices)
  • 1 tsp of turmeric and coriander
  • ½ tsp of black pepper and paprika powder
  • 2 magi chicken cubs

Method
STEP 1:
Boil the pasta 2/3 through and in a separate pot, stir fry the chicken with garlic in olive oil.
STEP 2: Add soya sauce, lemon juice, tomatoes and tomato paste, then stir until combined.
STEP 3: Add chicken cubes and all spices with half glass water and mix well. Cover and cook for 3 minutes.
STEP 4: Once the sauce gets thick, add the boiled macaroni and stir lightly so they don’t break.
STEP 5: Simmer for 2-3 minutes and serve!

TIP: add frozen veggies before you add the macaroni to make it more nutritious!


Aseeda (20-30 minutes)

Aseeda is a local dish that is enjoyed at any time, but preferably in winter as it warms you up and is so hearty!

Ingredients

  • flour (baker flour no. 2)
  • a pinch of cardamom and saffron (adjust as you desire)
  • sugar
  • water
  • rose water

Rule of thumb: for every cup of flour, add 1/2 cup of sugar. Also, gradually add hot water until it gets to your preferred consistency!

Method
STEP 1:
add the cardamom and saffron to 2 tbsp of rose water and 2 tbsp of water and set aside.
STEP 2: roast the flour in a pan until it browns.
STEP 3: gradually add water until the mix thickens up nicely.
STEP 4: add sugar (or add more if you’d like it sweeter).
STEP 5: add the saffron and cardamom water into the mix.
STEP 6: if you’d like a softer consistency, gradually add more water and stir!

TIP: you can use any type of flour, but Bahrainis usually use the local baker flour no. 2! Also, you can add butter if you’d like!
