Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa met with the committee reviewing Bahraini citizenship cases on Sunday. He began by thanking the Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs (NPRA) for discovering individuals who illegally obtained Bahraini nationality.
He explained that the committee was set up after finding that some people had used false or forged documents to get citizenship, misused their citizenship, or harmed the Kingdom’s interests and community security. It also looks into those who failed to meet the ongoing requirements for citizenship.
In response to recent questions from the media and social media about the committee’s timeline, the Interior Minister said the committee has been reviewing cases since 2010 as part of a broader review of naturalisation cases.
Regarding the withdrawal of government benefits from those who improperly obtained citizenship, he stated that these cases would be handled according to the relevant laws. He emphasized that Bahraini citizenship is meant for those who show loyalty, gratitude, and respect for the laws. And protect Bahrain’s security and social cohesion, contribute to development, and possess skills needed by the country.
A hotline will be set up by the Interior Minister’s Office to receive information, complaints, or comments, with confidentiality assured.
