World Health Organization opens up to Bahrain
The Director General of the World Health Organization, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus along with Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr Ahmed Al Mandhari has arrived in Bahrain today. The Director General was met by Her Excellency Faeqa bint Saeed Al-Saleh- Minister of Health, Dr. Waleed Khalifa Al Manea- Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health and Member of the National Medical Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus.
This visit comes on the heels of the WHO naming Manama as one of the “Healthy City 2021”. The laurel for Bahrain comes in recognition of its status stellar vaccination drive which has registered over 1 million people with both doses of a vaccine and 100,000 additional booster doses given out. With a population of around 1.7 million people, this means that about 70% of us are vaccinated! Way to go Bahrain!
During his visit, Dr. Ghebreyesus will also open an official WHO regional office in Bahrain which will be led by WHO’s Bahrain representative Dr. Tasnim Atatrah. The opening of the WHO office in Manama and the appointment of Dr. Atatrah serves as the next step in the city’s development as a global centre of health research, practice, and innovation.

وصول المدير العام لمنظمة الصحة العالمية إلى البحرين
يقوم المدير العام لمنظمة الصحة العالمية ، الدكتور تيدروس أدهانوم غيبريسوس ، إلى جانب المدير الإقليمي للشرق المتوسط الدكتور أحمد المنظري بزيارة البحرين اليوم. وسيقابل المدير العام معالي فائق بنت سعيد الصالح – وزيرة الصحة والدكتور وليد خليفة المانع وكيل وزارة الصحة وعضو فرقة العمل الطبي الوطني لمكافحة فيروس كورونا.
وتأتي هذه الزيارة في أعقاب تسمية منظمة الصحة العالمية المنامة كواحدة من أكثر المدن الصحية لعام2021. تأتي جائزة لوريل للبحرين تقديراً لمكانتها في حملة التطعيم المكثفة التي سجلت أكثر من مليون شخص بجرعات لقاح و 100،000 جرعة معززة إضافية. يبلغ عدد سكان البحرين حوالي 1.7 مليون شخص ، وهذا يعني أن حوالي 70٪ منا قد تم تطعيمهم! المجد للبحرين!
وخلال زيارته، سيفتتح الدكتور غيبريسوس أيضا مكتبا إقليميا رسميا لمنظمة الصحة العالمية في البحرين، وسيرأسه ممثل منظمة الصحة العالمية في البحرين الدكتور تسنيم أتاترا. ويعتبر افتتاح مكتب منظمة الصحة العالمية في المنامة وتعيين الدكتورة أتاترا الخطوة مشرفة في تطوير المدينة كمركز عالمي للبحوث الصحية والممارسة والابتكار.
