As the hottest days of the year approach, Bahrain is taking significant steps to ensure the safety of its workers. Starting Monday, July 1, the Kingdom will enforce a two-month midday ban on outdoor work from noon to 4 pm. This initiative aims to protect workers from the harsh effects of the sun and extreme heat.
Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Bahrain’s Minister of Labour, announced the measure, highlighting the nation’s dedication to promoting occupational safety and health. Humaidan emphasized that the midday work ban has consistently produced positive outcomes, safeguarding workers’ health and boosting productivity.
The primary goal of the ban is to provide a secure working environment. Shielding workers from heat-related illnesses and occupational accidents during the sweltering summer months. Humaidan underscored the importance of raising awareness about the health risks posed by high temperatures. The Labour Ministry has launched an extensive awareness campaign, distributing leaflets and brochures in multiple languages. These materials outline the dangers of heat exposure, offer preventive measures, and detail requirements for maintaining safe working conditions.
Employers are encouraged to implement solutions to minimize heat and humidity exposure. And to ensure comprehensive healthcare and first aid measures are in place. Violating the midday work ban can result in penalties, including a jail sentence of up to three months and/or a fine ranging from BD500 to BD1000, as stipulated by Article (192) of Law 36 of 2012.
We think its a great initiative, stay safe & hydrated!
