This Bahraini Swimming Team Just Completed an Epic 44.5km Swim from Saudi to Bahrain

In an inspiring display of endurance and determination, the Khalid bin Hamad Swimming Challenge was successfully completed following the directives of Shaikh Khaled, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee. Bahraini swimmers Abdullah Atiya and Louay bin Abdulwahid bin Abdulahad Tashkandi took on the demanding open-water challenge, swimming an impressive 44.5 kilometres from Al Aziziyah at Sunset Beach Resort in Saudi Arabia to Zallaq in Bahrain. Battling strong sea currents, the team completed the swim in 22 hours, 2 minutes, and 24 seconds, covering a longer distance than planned due to challenging conditions.

Upon arrival, the swimmers were welcomed by Dr. Abdulrahman Askar, CEO of the General Sports Authority. Commenting on the achievement, Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad praised the team’s performance, noting that the challenge reflects the determination and perseverance of Bahraini youth and showcases the strong progress of sports in the Kingdom. He highlighted that such initiatives promote teamwork, discipline, and resilience, while also encouraging the wider community to embrace sport as a healthy and motivating way of life. He also reaffirmed continued support for challenge-based sporting initiatives, stressing their role in developing national talent and presenting a positive image of Bahrain on both regional and international stages.
