The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf has launched a new electronic marriage contract service, making the process faster and more convenient for couples in Bahrain. The service allows licensed marriage officials to complete marriage contracts digitally using smart tablets, from the marriage ceremony and witness signatures to approval by the Sharia Court. Couples can then access their marriage contract electronically. The new system has reduced processing time by nearly 70% by replacing paper forms with digital ones, simplifying procedures, and improving the overall user experience.
The service will be introduced gradually, with a number of licensed marriage officials using the system during the first phase. Couples can still request a printed copy of their marriage contract if they prefer. The launch is part of Bahrain’s wider digital transformation efforts, with more than 1,300 government services documented and around 800 services redesigned to improve efficiency and the overall customer experience.
The new service is another step towards making government services faster, simpler, and more accessible for everyone.
