Update: Delivery/Courier Drivers Can No Longer Take Photos of Your ID in Bahrain

The Personal Data Protection Authority (PDPA) in Bahrain has issued a new directive under Circular No. (1) of 2025, introducing stricter privacy measures for delivery and courier services. Under the new rule, drivers are no longer permitted to take photos of customers’ ID cards using their personal mobile phones. They may only verify IDs on-site without capturing or storing any images. If a company requires an ID copy for operational reasons, the PDPA mandates that the device used must be securely connected to the company’s central database or use a dedicated system for secure uploads, ensuring that no personal data is stored locally or misused. This initiative aims to enhance data protection standards in Bahrain, in line with the Data Protection Law (Law No. 30 of 2018). It also reinforces the country’s commitment to safeguarding individuals’ personal information and strengthening trust between service providers and customers.

A Safer Country!
