Bahrain’s commitment to promoting health and wellness has reached new heights with the designation of five pioneering universities as “health-promoting universities” by the World Health Organization (WHO). The ceremony was graced by the presence of Bahrain’s top officials, including the President of the Supreme Council of Health and the Minister of Health.
These universities, including Ahlia University, Arabian Gulf University, Kingdom University, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain, and the University of Technology Bahrain, were selected based on their innovative wellness programs and unwavering commitment to health education. This prestigious recognition highlights the country’s dedication to providing exceptional healthcare education and training to its citizens and the world.
The WHO healthy universities program recognizes that higher education institutions play a crucial role in promoting sustainable development and protecting the health and well-being of students, staff, and the wider community. Bahrain’s pioneering program acts as a foundation for future development, joining global healthy university networks, advancing health and well-being policies and practices, and increasing access to health promotion across networks by developing multi-sectoral partnerships and outreach across regional communities.
This recognition is a testament to Bahrain’s vision and leadership in promoting health and well-being, and we can’t wait to see what these universities will achieve in the years to come.
Congratulations to all the universities and their students – you are truly paving the way for a healthier and happier future for all!
