CZ’s life was transformed forever by a single night in August 2013 while he was playing poker with his friends in Shanghai. It was the first time that Zhao heard of BitCoin. A fascinated Zhao sold his apartment to go all-in on Bitcoin!
Earning his computer science degree, CZ worked as a technology leader at crypto wallet provider Blockchain and crypto marketplace OKCoin. He utilized the knowledge and experience he gained from designing high-frequency trading software and launched Binance through a $15 million Initial Coin Offer (ICO)
CZ and his early colleagues faced challenges when the value of BNB, Binance’s cryptocurrency, sank below ICO price but the man has never shied away from challenges. As a result, CZ transformed Binance into a decentralized operation with an agile global workforce and morphed it into an exchange that offers high volumes, low fees, and distinct advantages to users.
In just six months after its launch, Binance jumped to No. 1 in the crypto exchange rankings, and it stays in that position up to this day despite all the new services over its short history!
Thanks to CZ’s drive, grit, and initiative, Binance is now a strong team of 1,000+ employees and spread out in more than 40 countries, serving 180+ territories around the world.
