Bahrain’s Parliament Approves Law to Stop Conversion of Visit Visas into Work Permits

Bahrain’s Parliament has unanimously approved a proposed law that will stop expatriates from converting tourist or visit visas into work permits. 🇧🇭 The change, part of an update to the 1965 Foreigners (Migration and Residency) Law, is now awaiting further review and approval by the Shura Council. The law aims to curb the misuse of visit visas and prioritize local employment opportunities for Bahrainis. The new regulations are designed to ensure clear conditions for visa issuance from the start and reduce the exploitation of tourist visas. Since stricter rules were introduced last year, the number of visa conversions has dropped by over 87%. However, some government departments and MPs have raised concerns about potential impacts on tourism and the economy.
