Update: The Famous Golden Artwork Has Been Removed From Bab Al Bahrain After 8 Years

As part of the Manama Souq development project led by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), the well-known art installation “Al-Murtasha” has been removed from the entrance of Bab Al Bahrain. The installation had decorated the ceiling of the souq’s main entrance since 2017. This striking piece of art, considered one of the most unique decorative features in the souq, was created eight years ago. It consisted of more than 20,000 gold-painted metal chains designed in the form of coins, hanging from the ceiling at a height of nearly seven meters.

The Ministry of Culture first launched the installation in 2017 to serve as a welcoming gateway for visitors, blending the souq’s historic and cultural identity with a modern artistic touch. Its recent removal comes under a broader plan to redevelop Manama Souq, with a new vision focused on highlighting the traditional heritage of the market while introducing modern elements to enhance its appeal. The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority is expected to soon unveil new designs and facilities as part of this redevelopment project. The goal is to make Manama Souq an even more attractive destination for both tourists and locals, while preserving its deep-rooted cultural and historical identity at the heart of the capital.
