South Korea Just Scrapped Its Age Laws, Making the Entire Population a Year Younger

One year younger!

Imagine waking up one-year younger! This is exactly the case for South Koreans. In case you don’t know, South Korea’s age calculating system marks newborns as 1 year old, which is so different from the norm. However, as of 2023, the government is changing its system to the common system (where newborns are 1 day old and so on)!

Today, South Korea passed laws to remove their traditional way of counting age and using international standards. Citizens have been waiting for this for a while as it confuses many people, and is hard to explain. This shift is going to make South Koreans 1 or even 2 years younger on official documents.

In addition, Koreans are known to be one year old when born, and a year is added to their official documentation every Jan 1st! Also, this is the age that they use on daily basis.

This is a dream come true for many in South Korea as it makes their lives easier. Source: Reuters

Youthful again!
