Art is subjective. But every artist needs to be given credit where credit is due. And Bahrain has no shortage of talented artists specializing in various mediums. So we thought we could shine a spotlight on some of these artists, in a segment called Local Artist in Spotlight. Our next feature? A member of Art Attack Krew, Sojr.
Salman Aljar a.k.a Sojr is a street and graffiti artist but he does it all. Let’s take a dive into his mind.
• Could you give our readers a general introduction about yourselves?
I’m Salman Aljar aka Sojr. I’m a street artist and graffiti artist. I’ve been doing graffiti for 4 years. I started doing graffiti work on my rooftop or anywhere I could find a clean wall.
Then with time, I started to learn more about street art through YouTube and my friends.
Later on, I joined the Art Attack Krew which gave me the opportunity to meet other artists like myself which made me develop more as an artist.
Art Attack Krew: one for all and all for one
• How and Why did you join Art Attack Krew?
The group leader Ayfu texted me on Instagram telling me about the idea of creating a group of artists (ATK). And I was convinced by the idea to join the group as I found it to be a great opportunity to learn more about my craft from other people who share the same passion for art.
• Could you tell us a little about your process?
I like to look at people’s faces to see their details and see how they react in different situations. After that, I do the sketch on my iPad then the art kind of starts completing by itself, and my mind automatically starts to imagine the feeling or the reactions of the character I’m drawing.
•What art/artist do you most identify with/admire?
My favorite artist is Kiptoe.
•What is the one item you couldn’t do without?
The spray can is something I can’t live without because most of my work depends on it. Spray cans are basically with me wherever I go. I am always ready and prepared to let my creativity out. That’s why I keep my spray cans close to me.
•What memorable responses have you had to your work?
I remember once I was in a place called Artly. It was an art gallery event to showcase ATK group artwork and one of the big Bahraini artists walked up to me and told me that he really enjoyed looking at my art piece and how he was impressed with my level.

• هل يمكنك إعطاء قرائنا مقدمة بشكل عام عنك؟
أنا سلمان الجار الملقب بسوجر. فنان شوارع وفنان جرافيتي. كنت أرسم الغرافيتي منذ 4 سنوات. بدأت في الكتابة على الجدران على سطح منزلنا أو في أي مكان كنت أجد فيه جدار نظيف.
ثم مع مرور الوقت ، تعرفت على المزيد حول فن الشارع من خلال الYouTube وأصدقائي.
لاحقا ، انضممت إلى Art Attack Krew الي منحني الفرصة لمقابلة فنانين آخرين مثلي وطورني أكثر كفنان.

• كيف ولماذا انضممت إلى Art Attack Krew؟
أرسل لي مدير المجموعة Ayfu رسالة نصية على Instagram أخبرني فيها عن فكرة إنشاء مجموعة من الفنانين (ATK). و اقتنعني بفكرة الانضمام إلى المجموعة حيث وجدت أنها فرصة رائعة لمعرفة المزيد عن حرفتي من أشخاص آخرين يشاركونني نفس الشغف بالفن.
• هل يمكن أن تخبرنا قليلاً عن طريق عملك؟
أحب أن أنظر إلى وجوه الأشخاص لأرى تفاصيلهم وأرى كيف يتفاعلون في كل المواقف المختلفة. بعده، أقوم بالرسم على جهاز iPad الخاص بي ، ثم يبدأ الفن في الإكتمال من تلقاء نفسه ، ويبدأ ذهني تلقائيًا في تخيل الشعور أو ردود أفعال الشخصيات لتي أرسمها.
• ما هو الفن / الفنان الي تجد نفسك فيه / تحترم فنه؟
فناني المفضل هو Kiptoe.
• ما هو العنصر الوحيد الذي لا يمكنك الاستغناء عنه؟
علبة الرش الخاصة بي شيء لا يمكنني العيش بدونه لأن معظم عملي يعتمد عليها. علب الرش هي في الأساس معي أينما ذهبت. لأنها أساس إبداعي. لهذا السبب أبقي علب الرش قريبة مني.
• ما هي الردود التي لاتنساها؟
أتذكر مرة كنت في مكان يسمى Artly. و كان إيفينت في معرض فني لعرض الأعمال الفنية لمجموعة ATK وتوجه إليّ أحد كبار الفنانين البحرينيين وأخبرني أنه استمتع حقًا بالنظر إلى عملي الفني وكيف أعجبه مستواي.
