Bahrain is getting a digital boost with its game-changing initiative, iFactories. This move, in partnership with Tamkeen, aims to propel the industrial sector towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution(4IR) by upgrading factories into smart hubs of innovation and efficiency.
Abdullah bin Abdel Fakhro, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, revealed plans to transform 300 factories into smart ones by 2026. The goal? To enhance production management practices, boost productivity, and create more skilled job opportunities for citizens.
The journey to digital transformation will unfold in four key stages. First, factories will undergo evaluation, guided by the ministry’s advisory and technical assistance. Then, accredited evaluators will swoop in for the real assessment. The empowerment stage will see factories crafting their own digital makeover plans. And finally, the ministry will keep a watchful eye as the transformation unfolds.
Dr. Khaled Fahad Al Alawi, the Assistant Undersecretary for Industrial Development, shared that factories will follow the SIRI index, an international benchmark for Fourth Industrial Revolution practices. The goal? To shape factories into forward-thinking, tech-savvy powerhouses.
Maha Mufeez, Tamkeen CEO, sees this partnership as a turbo boost for the nation’s industrial modernization goals. By encouraging Bahraini businesses to tap into tech solutions and automation, the private sector’s economic contribution is set to soar. It’s a move that Mufeez envisions as the driving force behind Bahrain’s growth in the Gulf state.
Get ready, Bahrain—iFactories is paving the way for a smarter, more dynamic future!
