Art is subjective. But every artist needs to be given credit where credit is due. And Bahrain has no shortage of talented artists specializing in various mediums. So we thought we could shine a spotlight on some of these artists, in a segment called Local Artist of the Week In Spotlight. Our next feature? A member of Art Attack Krew, Aafia.
Aafia is a nature artist. Let’s take a dive into her mind.
Local Artist in the Spotlight
• Could you give our readers a general introduction about yourselves?
My name is Aafia, I’m a 22-year-old self-taught artist, currently studying Graphic Design at the University College of Bahrain. Ever since I was younger I’ve been passionate about art and always kept it with me as a hobby. But it wasn’t until I joined the Art Attack Krew in 2021 that I started learning, practicing, and developing my skills. I currently do not identify my art with a particular style since for me it’s all about exploring and enjoying the process. However, I fancy painting the elements of nature. My creativity has helped me strengthen my career in Graphic Design as well as contributed vastly to my personal life over the years. Being an only child, art helped me express myself and certain emotions that I couldn’t put into words as a child.Â
• How and Why did you join Art Attack Krew?
I was attending an art exhibition at a spot called Artly and seeing the work of the artists from ATK, I felt inspired and eager to join the group so that I can also learn and take my skills to the next level.Â
• Could you tell us a little about your process? How an idea ultimately becomes a finished piece?
Initially, an idea pops up in my mind when I’m observing an emotion or a change, so I usually write it down and in order to develop it further I gather inspiration from different platforms until It feels complete and then I sketch it out on a paper, choose a color palette and begin painting on the canvas.Â
•What wouldn’t you do without?
It is very hard for me to imagine how I’d manage to do any art without my Paintbrushes and paints.Â
•What memorable responses have you had to your work?
I have had many various responses to my work but one, in particular, was about my painting called Pixelated Existence where the individual depicted the painting to be of colorful tears and I find that to be very interesting since those are two usually very contradicting words, put together.Â
