Studies Reveal Muharraq’s Al Sayah Island Is Man-Made; Dating Back to the Early Islamic Era

Interesting finds!

Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, along with a British team led by Professor Robert Carter, started excavation works on the historical island of AlSayah at the end of January, as part of the “Maria” excavation project. The first excavation results show that the island is man-made, the island was industrial, and people created it 1200 years ago around a sweet water canal in a sea called Al Sayah.

The island was a water-filling and a shipping station for the pearling boats during the time! How incredible is this discovery! The archaeological remains indicate that the history of the island goes back to the early Islamic era (7th and 8th century) or maybe even earlier!

Rich history!
