Municipal authorities across Bahrain’s four governorates have introduced new unified regulations for central and traditional markets in an effort to improve market management, regulate commercial activities, and ensure better use of public spaces. The new rules were issued through separate decisions by the Capital Secretariat and the municipalities of Muharraq, the Northern Governorate, and the Southern Governorate. While each authority has its own regulation, the requirements and conditions are largely the same across all governorates.
The new rules aim to organize market spaces, ensure only licensed vendors can operate, and set clear rules for violations. They also regulate the use of sidewalks, walkways, and shared areas within the markets.
Businesses and market users will have up to six months to comply with the new rules. Existing vendors may need to update their licenses, review the use of allocated spaces, and adjust their operations to meet the new requirements. The measures aim to create a more organized and efficient market environment while improving the management of Bahrain’s central and traditional markets.
