Hh SH Khaled Witnessed the Conclusion of the 170KM Swim around Bahrain Challenge

HH Sh Khaled bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, attended the final stage of the Bahrain Island Swimming Challenge. The challenge involved swimming 170 kilometers around Bahrain in a relay race, and it was launched by HH Sh Khaled to inspire athletes to take on big challenges. HH Sh Khaled welcomed the four swimmers at the finish line at Sofitel Zallaq Hotel and followed their journey closely throughout the race. The swimmers took turns every three hours.

Together, Abdulla Atiya, Fatima Al Mahmeed, Maryam bin Laden, and Donaldson Andrew swam 180 kilometers 10 kilometers more than planned — in a total time of 59 hours, 59 minutes, and 6.52 seconds, successfully completing the challenge. HH Sh Khaled praised the swimmers’ achievement, saying it shows their strong spirit, determination, and ambition. He said, “These champions have proven that with willpower and dedication, anything is possible.

Their achievement is not just a sporting milestone but an inspiring message to all young people about believing in their dreams. Events like this strengthen Bahrain’s position on the regional and international sports map and encourage a culture of sports and ambition.” The swimmers shared their pride in completing the challenge and said that the great support from HH Sh Khaled was a major motivation that helped them finish this incredible journey.
