FYI: Here’s A Breakdown Of The 4 Vaccines You Can Take In Bahrain

Let’s get down to it

Vaccination is a super important step in defeating the pandemic both nationally and globally! Bahrain is currently offering a choice of 4 vaccines to all citizens and residents above the age of 18, for free. If you haven’t signed up yet, you might be confused between all the choices available, we’ve outlined all the options and the differences between them to help you make your choice:

Sinopharm

Sinopharm is the first vaccine to be approved for use in Bahrain, which came all the way from China.

It’s a traditional vaccine that utilizes dead particles of the virus to expose the immune system to it without risking a reaction. Sinopharm reported 79% efficacy during trials.

Pfizer

The Pfizer vaccine comes all the way from the US and utilizes new mRNA technology, which includes genetic code.

The genetic code informs human cells to create the COVID-19 spike protein, which will then be released and attacked by our immune system. Pfizer reported the highest rate of efficacy during trials – 97%.

AstraZeneca

The AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, also known as Covisheild, is a collaboration between the British-Swedish pharma company and the research team at Oxford University. The vaccine itself, however, is manufactured in India.

The vaccine is made using a “Viral Vector.” This method utilizes a common cold virus called adenovirus and mounts a modified version of COVID-19 onto it. This weakens the vaccine severely, but it’s still strong enough for antibodies to be created. The efficacy of this vaccine is estimated at around 70%.

Sputnik V

The Russian Sputnik Vaccine, which is named after Russia’s first satellite, is manufactured by Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. The vaccine utilizes the same “Viral Vector” method as the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Sooo… there you have it. A complete rundown of all your options!

Get vaccinated, guys!

You can sign up to get any of the vaccines if you’re a Bahraini citizen or resident for free on the BeAware application.
