We’re home to Dugongs!!!
Bahrain’s territorial waters are home to the largest groups of dugongs in terms of number and density – in the world!!
A study was conducted by a specialized Bahraini research team under the supervision of Dr. Abdulqader Khamis in the marine environment, with the support of international experts. And it spanned more than 3 years! They conducted marine and air surveys and used satellite images to track seagrass mulches. This is the dugong’s main diet! While Dugongs can be seen at the protected site of Hawar Islands, this study shows that they’re densely populated in Bahrain’s territorial waters too!
